Protest at GC College by ABVP for returning fees of exam not held due to pandemic
Nov. 18: Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) was supposed to conduct the HS First Year Final Exam, 2020 in the month of April. But due to the pandemic situation followed by nationwide lockdown, the said examination was cancelled and all students were automatically promoted to HS 2nd Year. However, the students had already paid the examination fees of Rs.1000 to their respective colleges much ahead of the outbreak of the pandemic in the month of December, 2019.
It is in this connection that the GC College Unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) raised a demand to return back the Exam Fees of HS 1st year Final exam collected by the college. In this connection, the ABVP Unit members of GC College, Silchar submitted a memorandum to the Principal on 9 November. ABVP demanded that the fees be refunded to the students within a week or else we will launch a vigorous agitation.”
However, as the college authority did not yielded to the demand of ABVP within the stipulated time, so on Wednesday they raised a strong protest inside the GC College campus. The ABVP unit of GC College, Silchar locked the Office of the Principal for 2 long hours and sat for demonstration raising slogans in support of their demand.
Finally, Dr. Bivash Deb, Principal of G.C. College came out with a notice wherein he wrote, “On the basis of the memorandum submitted by the students, it is for the general information to the HS 1st Year students that the matter of refunding the HS 1st Year Examination fees to the concerned students shall be finalised announced on 1 December, 2020.”
Agitation in-charge of ABVP Silchar Unit, Rohit Chanda said, “ABVP has raised a legitimate demand and we are hopeful that the GC College authority will definitely accept our demand and refund the Examination fees to the students of HS. This is a victory of student power.”
