Programme lined up to commemorate conclusion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in Hailakandi
Sept.27: Commemorating with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the District Information and Public Relations Office, Hailakandi is organising a series of programmes to mark the event. In an order issued to this effect here on Thursday, the District Development Commissioner, has asked the DIPRO to organise virtual programmes on its behalf marking the conclusion of two-year long 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation in a befitting manner maintaining all COVID-19 protocols.
As per the programmes lined up for the occasion, a webinar on the theme “Relevance of Gandhianism in modern times’ will be held on Monday at 7 pm where several speakers will deliver their speeches. The keynote address will be delivered by Associate Prof.Hilal Uddin Laskar, while Associate Prof. Debadutta Chakravarty, Assistant Prof. Dr.Yagneswar Deb, Associate Prof.Dr.Abdul Mannan Mazumdar, Assistant Professor Dr. Dipanjona Purkayastha and noted journalist Satananda Bhattacharjee will throw light on the relevance of Gandhiji’s ideology in modern times. It will be moderated by Shankar Choudhury.
On Wednesday at 12 noon, a virtual quiz competition for students of government and private schools from Classes VIII to XII will be held revolving on the life and times of Gandhiji. The quiz will be conducted by journalist Satananda Bhattacharjee. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. An online painting competition depicting Gandhiji will be held for students from Classes VIII to XII for both government and private schools. The portrait will have to be mailed to diprohkd@gmail.com and WhatsApp number 7002147583 till 5 pm of October 1. A panel of artists will judge the portraits and their decision will be final and binding. First, second and third prizes will be awarded for quiz and painting competitions.
On October 2, floral tributes will be paid to Mahatma Gandhi followed by screening of internationally acclaimed film ‘Gandhi’ by Richard Attenborough at Rabindra Bhawan auditorium at 11 am by E Media Association. Physical distancing and wearing of masks will be ensured by the organisers during the screening of the film with the number of viewers kept to a bare minimum in view of the pandemic situation.
