Prof. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri delivered lecture on “National Security, Border Security & Role of Civilians”

way2barak, Sept.16: Seemanta Chetana Mancha Purvattor (Cachar District Committee) organised two public lectures on Friday. The 1st one was held in collaboration with the Centre for Studies in Human Development, Assam University, whereas, the 2nd one was held in collaboration with IQAC at Radhamadhab College, Silchar.

The special lecture session on “National Security, Border Security and Role of Civilians” was delivered by Prof. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, former Vice Chancellor of Himachal Central University. Prof. Agnihotri is a prolific writer and an expert in Chinese, Tibetan studies. In a lucid manner, he highlighted the role of civilians in protecting the frontiers and thereby helps in strengthening national security. He thrust upon the concept of national security. He distinguished between state and nation and cited examples of cultural integrity with reference to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia. He referred to the various cultural symbols from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata in the Southeast Asian region.

The lecture session held in the University campus started with a welcome address by Dr. Debotosh Chakraborty, President, Cachar District Committee, Seemanta Chetana Mancha Purvottar. In his speech, Dr. Chakraborty highlighted the importance of Border Security and duties of citizens. This was followed by the deliberation by Prof. Joyati Bhattacharya, an expert in the field of International relations from the Department of Political Science, Assam University. She highlighted the evolution of nation-state and the concept of border security in the light of India and neighbours. Dr. Prodush Kiran Nath, Registrar, Assam University also mentioned about the duties of citizens and legacy towards the nation. At the last part of the program, Prof. G. Ram delivered his presidential address mentioning the great Indian legacy and the role of Civilians. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Biswabijoy Bhattacharjee, followed by National Anthem.

Again, in the 2nd such programme held at Radhamadhab College, Silchar, Prof. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri delivered the same lecture. The session was presided over by Dr Debashish Roy, Principal of the college. Ratnadeep Paul delivered the welcome address. IQAC Coordinator Arunabha Bhattacharjee highlighted the importance of border security in his brief speech. Relevant speech was also delivered by Suparna Das. Dr Sonali Choudhury delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Sudarshan Gupta.
