Prisoners Attack Jailor at Barpeta District Jail

way2barak, October 3: A magisterial enquiry was ordered on Friday after heated arguments broke out between inmates and jail authorities at Barpeta prison, a senior officer said. District Commissioner Nabadeep Pathak said the incident occurred when the inmates came forward to air their grievances, leading to a heated exchange with the jail authorities.

The inmates aired their resentment against the jail authorities. And this led to some heated scenes,” he said.

Senior police officials rushed to the prison, and the situation was brought under control, he said.

“Issues are there. So, I have ordered a magisterial enquiry to look into the genuine grievances. We will inform the government also,” he said.

The DC declined to disclose details of the grievances.
