Primary School Teachers submits memorandum to PM Modi, demands for restoration of old pension scheme
December 2: Prathamik Sikhak Sammilani (Primary School Teachers Association) a branch of Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association submitted a 8-point memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The memorandum was submitted through the Deputy Inspector of Schools, Silchar. In the said memorandum, they have sought the intervention of the Prime Minister in resolving their long standing issues.
The 8 point charter of demands raised the issue of annulment of new contributory pension scheme and restoration of an old defined pension scheme. Speaking on this issue, Kankan Paul, President of Prathamik Sikhak Sammilani said, “Our repeated representations as regards our long standing genuine demands failed to evoke any response from the state government. As such, we have become bound to knock the doors of the Prime Minister. Social security for the employees is jeopardized under the New Pension Scheme and as such we have raised this demand of restoration of old defined pension scheme.”
Amit Nag, Secretary of Prathamik Sikhak Sammilani spoke about the other demands of the association, which includes, regularisation of all contractual teachers working under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan including state pool teachers under the department of education, to provide entitled grade pay to headteachers and graduate teachers of elementary schools in compliance with the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, removal of inconsistencies of the Sixth Pay Commission and implementation of the recommendations of the 7 th Pay Commission from January 1, 2016, exemption of DEI. ED/ B.Ed. for appearing in TET exam etc.
