March 21: During the Zero hour of the Budget session of the Parliament on Monday, Silcgar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy spoke on the illegal activities going on along the Bangladesh border and demanded setting up of a Intelligence Bureau (IB) Office in Silchar.

Dr Rajdeep Roy said, “There is the international border in the area from which I belong. It’s not only that Assam shares the international border with Bangladesh, but Meghalaya too shares the border with Bangladesh. Along the bordering areas, large number of illegal, anti-national seditious activities take place off and on. Smuggling activities also happens here to a considerable extent.”

It is in this context that MP Dr Roy said, “I would like to urge upon the Home Minister Sri Amit Shah ji to set up an Intelligence Bureau (IB) Office in Silchar, which should be headed by an IPS officer. Infact, this should be a fully operational set up so that the illegal and seditious activities prevailing there could be checked. Moreover, people belonging to one particular religious community around my constituency goes missing for 5 or 7 years. These people suddenly reappear and gets involved in anti-social activities. As in the Western front, the Govt of India needs to keep an eye in the Northeast front also.”
