President of India renominates Swapan Dasgupta to Rajya Sabha
June 1: In a significant development, President of India Ramnath Kovind on Monday renominated Swapan Dasgupta to the Rajya Sabha to fill up the seat that fell vacant due to his resignation for his remainder term till 24 April, 2021. Mr Dasgupta had earlier resigned from the Rajya Sabha and unsuccessfully contested the West bengal Assembly elections on a BJP ticket.
The notification issued on 31 May, 2021 stated, “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-clause (a) of Clause (1) of Article 80 of the Constitution of India, read with clause (3) of that article, the President is pleased to re-nominate Shri Swapan Dasgupta to the Council of States to fill the seat whaich has fallen vacant due to his resignation for his remainder term, viz, 24.04.2021.”
