Platinum Jubilee of Indrakumari Girls HS School, Hailakandi celebrated with pomp & splendour
October 23: In the history of any institution, the passage of 75 glorious years means a lot. The event becomes more meaningful, when such an institution proudly stands with its hear held high through all the years of its long but successful journey. Such a rare yet distinguished achievement marks the Indrakumari Girls Higher Secondary School in Hailakandi.
The school established in the year 1944 celebrated its Platinum Jubilee in a grand way on Wednesday. 1944 to 2019 saw many upheavals, yet the school overcome all hurdles and stood as a testimony to the fact that this remote place in southern Assam values the concept of female education.
Established at a time when the British ruled over the country, the necessity of educating the girls was felt essential by some of the leading personalities of Hailakandi. After years of sweat and toil, Indrakumari Girls H.S. School stands in a place which would make all its alumni, present students, inhabitants of Hailakandi and the people of Barak Valley immense proud. The school was named after ab eminent personality, Indrakumari Chakraborty.
A colourful rally marked the beginning of the Platinum Jubilee Celebration which started early in the morning on Wednesday. Students, teachers and eminent persons of the town participated in the rally which went through the major points of Hailakandi.
The formal programme of the Platinum Jubilee began with lighting the lamp by Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi. A souvenir was also released on the occasion which contains both scholarly articles and reminiscence of the golden days by many of its former students. A reading of the souvenir would be a pleasant journey down the memory lane. A colourful cultural programme also marked the celebration.
