Pineapples from Lakhipur exported to Dubai for 1st time

July 7: In a good news for Barak Valley in general and Cachar district in particular, that for the first time the sweet pineapples from Lakhipur will find its place in the markets of Dubai. On Sunday, Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar flagged off the Refrigerated container carrying pineapples.

A total of 10,000 pineapples, weighing around 15 metric tonnes were exported by the specially designed refrigerated Van. People associated with the growing and selling of the pineapples said, “This is on an experimental basis. We hope to supply more aweet pineapples from our place not only to Dubai but also in the other countries of the world.

Jakir Hussain Choudhury, district agriculture officer, Cachar said that a consignment of 15 metric tonnes of pineapples, cultivated in Cachar district’s Lakhipur sub-division has been exported to Dubai, for the first time.
