Perumbavoor police arrested man from Assam for sexually assault
way2barak, 9 November: Perumbavoor police have arrested a 32-year-old Assam native for sexually assaulting the minor daughter of a migrant couple. The police arrested the accused Monjirul Hakeem, who had escaped to the north-eastern state, with the help of Assam police.
“He sexually assaulted the minor girl while she was alone at the house and also recorded the incident on a mobile phone. After the incident, he fled to Kochi city and as soon as he realised that the police were searching for him, he escaped to Assam by train,” said a police officer.
According to Perumbavoor police, Hakeem resided in a secluded village, and his arrest was challenging due to the opposition they had to face from the local people. Eventually, he was caught with the assistance of Assam police on Nov 3. He attempted to resist arrest and even tried to flee from custody.
The investigation was conducted under the supervision of district police chief Vaibhav Saxena. Sub-inspectors K G Dinesh Kumar, N K Biju, and senior CPO Bineesh were part of the team that arrested him from Assam.
The accused was brought to Perumbavoor on Friday, and he was remanded after being produced in a court.
