Parliamentary team of INDIA visiting Manipur

way2barak, July 29 : The 20 member parliamentary delegations of opposition INDIA reached Imphal on Saturday to study the ethnic violence in Manipur, which was devastated by the Meitei-Kuki riot killing over 160 people and injuring over 600.

The parliamentary delegations from 16 parties would visit both valley and hill districts and talk to the affected people of both communities before they leave Imphal for Delhi on Sunday.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Sushmita Dev, who is also the member of the parliamentary team, said that they would likely meet Governor Anusuiya Uikey.

“We would visit Churachandpur and other affected areas of Manipur. We would not meet Chief Minister (N. Biren Singh) as he is a villain to the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur,” Dev told.

She said : “BJP and its governments are responsible for the Manipur crisis and loss of many lives and the mayhem. BJP is a lost face, Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) is a lost face.”

The Congress and other opposition parties are demanding imposition of President’s rule in Manipur and discussions in the parliament under relevant rules, 184 and 267 in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively.

The 20 member MPs delegation from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, include Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Gaurav Gogoi, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Sushmita Dev, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Sandosh Kumar, AA Rahim, Manoj Kumar Jha, Javed Ali Khan, Mahua Maji, PP Mohammed Faizal, Aneel Prasad Hegde, ET Mohammed Basheer, NK Premachandran, Sushil Gupta, Arvind Sawant, D Ravikumar, Thiru Thol Thirumavalavan, Jayant Singh and Phulo Devi Netam.

Accompanied by Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and in-charge of several northeastern states, Ajoy Kumar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Manipur on June 29-30.
