PAN-Aadhaar linking last date ends today; can be linked now with a fine of ₹ 500 to ₹ 1,000

March 31: The Government of India has extended the deadline for to link Aadhaar with PAN till 31 March, 2021. Notably, this is the ninth time that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for individuals to link PAN with Aadhaar. Not adhering to the deadline (31 March, 2022) would invite penalty ranging from ₹ 500 to ₹ 1,000.

As per a notification issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on March 29, 2022, Rs 500 will be charged if the PAN-Aadhaar is linked within three months after the expiry of the deadline. This would mean that if PAN-Aadhaar is linked between April 1, 2022, and June 30, 2022, then the individual will be liable to pay Rs 500 as a penalty for linking the same. If the linking of PAN-Aadhaar is done after three months, then a penalty of Rs 1,000 will be charged.

Do note that as per the latest income tax circular, if you do not link your PAN with Aadhaar, then your PAN will remain operative till March 31, 2023 only. However, from April 1, 2023 onwards your PAN will become inoperative if not linked with Aadhaar.
