Offer atleast 25% concession in monthly fees: Assam govt advises private schools
August 14: In a significant move, Assam Government has urged upon all private schools to provide atleast 25 percent concession in monthly fees. An order in this connection was issued by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Assam, Education department on 13 August, 2020. It needs mention here that in the month of April, 2020 Assam Government asked the schools to offer 50 percent concession of fees for that particular month only.
Taking to his twitter handle, State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “In view of #COVID19 pandemic, we’ve advised all private educational institutions to offer at least 25% concessions in monthly fees (pre-primary to XII), from May 1, 2020 till formal opening of schools. These institutions are saving substantial expenditure under various heads.”

In a notification, the Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, Education Department, said that the institutions must give fee relaxation as they are saving substantial amounts on various fronts such as: energy charges on electrical consumption, fuel cost for transportation, maintenance of vehicles, cost of meals in the case of residential and day-boarding schools, maintenance of swimming pools and gyms, reduction in the cost of cleaning, reduction in the cost of organizing events.
Further, the order categorically stated, ” The Govt of Assam hereby directs all educational institutions run by an association of individuals or society or trusts etc. and to the considered parents, to follow the following guidelines with immediate effect:
- Every educational institution as mentioned above have to waive 25% of their monthly school/collegefees exclusively meant from the month of May 2020 to till the formal and physical opening of educational institutions for imparting education to the students studying in any class from pre-primary to Class XIII.
- The educational institutions who have already collected the fees meant for the above period will adjust the concession in the next installment of the fees.
- Every considered parent/ guardian are also requested to clear dues of their wards minimum upto September 2020 at the reduced rates immediately, so that the authorities can make payment of salaries of their teaching and non-teaching staff without any problem.
