NRC: District Registrars asked to comply with Supreme Court’s order

December 15: After the Supreme Court’s verdict as regards modification of SOP for filing of claims and objectives, the NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela issued a notification addressed to District registrar of Citizens Registration (DRCRs) about the deadline extension etc. and urging them to comply with the new order. The Supreme Court after hearing to the plea of the Assam Government on December 12 extended the deadline for filing claims and objections in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) update exercise.

The apex court ordered that “to facilitate filing of objections against wrongful inclusions, the copies of the draft NRC be made available for inspection of all concerned at convenient locations, that is the office of the District Magistrate/ Deputy Commissioner, Sub-Divisional Offices (Civil), Circle Offices and Gram Panchayats. We further direct that so far as the filing of objections are concerned, the same may be done at the District Headquarters”.

The order also marks to make seating arrangements for inspection, training of staff for searching draft NRC. The concerned authorities are also asked to designate officers and supporting staff to receive objections at DC’s offices. Till computerized systems are put in place in DC’s offices a manual system has been asked to install. With due extension of the dates for filing of claims and objectives upto December 31, the state Coordinator has further asked the District Registrars to conduct publicity campaign at local level on the same.
