Frontline warriors combating Coronavirus felicitated by Hailakandi administration

April 15: The Hailakandi district administration felicitated the frontline workforce who are on the forefront in the ongoing fight against novel Coronavirus COVID-19. At a programme held at Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall here on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli and senior officials of the administration and health accorded felicitation to 23 frontline warriors such as ASHAs, ANMs, supervisors, sanitation workers, drivers and technicians who are combating the virus.

Jalli said the felicitation programme coinciding with the Noboborso and Rongali Bihu was organised to acknowledge the pivotal role played by the frontline heroes in protecting our society, the state and the country as a whole from the Coronavirus pandemic. “As today we usher in a New Year, let us start afresh with a new resolve in the fight against Coronavirus,” she said. The Deputy Commissioner said the felicitation has been accorded to further motivate the frontline heroes to continue with this extraordinary Godly cause of saving humanity from the Corona scourge.

Saluting the warriors, Jalli said, Everyone should take note of the fact that the first line of workers is already engaged in COVID-19 relief and doing commendable job. I salute the frontline warriors who are being felicitated today and those who are at ground zero fighting against the pandemic.” Jalli urged society not to ostracise the frontline workers and to attach any stigma to them. “The enthusiasm shown by the frontline army of workers is unmatchable and surely deserves approbation from the administration.The small gesture from our side will boost their morale to work further against Corona contagion,” she quipped.

The Deputy Commissioner pleaded with the people to cooperate with municipal and sanitation workers, who are working round the clock in collecting waste and cleaning streets in this hour of unprecedented crisis. “The sanitation workers must be appreciated for working tirelessly to help prevent the spread of the virus,” she said.
Jalli warned that those obstructing or coming in the way of the frontline workers from discharging their duties during the challenging times would not be spared. “These frontline workers are members of my family. Those who are threatening or preventing them from doing their duties would have to confront me first.” she warned, adding, “We have to rise above superstitions, myths and ostracism and open a new chapter of love, tolerance, compassion and humanism in our fight against the dreaded virus.”

The Deputy Commissioner said as ‘Coronavirus sees no religion, region, caste or creed, poor or rich and transcends all the barriers’ everyone must work unitedly in the fight against the pandemic. She exuded optimism that with the support of all, the battle against COVID-19 would be won. “We must remain calm and not panic. With patience and dogged determination, steely resolve, we would be able to defeat Coronavirus. Let us all rise in unison to make it happen,” she added.

She said the administration would firmly enforce the extended lockdown and urged the people to stay indoors and be safe as social distancing and lockdown are the only ways to contain the spread of the virus. District Development Commissioner, Vikram Dev Sarma, Additional Deputy Commissioner, RK Dam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health), EL Faihraem, Circle Officer, Tridip Roy, Joint Director, Health Services, Dr.RC Dwivedy and others garlanded the frontline workers and presented a gamocha to them as token of recognition for their hard work during the time of unprecedented Corona crisis.

The administration will accord felicitation to the rest of the frontline workers in due course of time. At the end of the felicitation function, inspiring songs such as ‘we shall overcome some day’, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s evergreen ‘manuhe manuhar babe’ and from the patriotic film Border ‘sandese aate hai’ were sung to boost the morale of the frontline workers. Sweets and chocolates were also distributed among the warriors.
