70 COVID-19 vaccines in development globally with 3 in human trials, says WHO
April 14: The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has till now embraced 19,20,918 persons with 1,19,686 fatal cases. Amidst such a gloomy scenario, there are some news of hope in the distant horizon. The drugmakers are in race to find a cure for the deadly pathogen. Seventy potential coronavirus vaccines are in development globally, with three of them already tested in human trials, according to a World Health Organisation (WHO) document.
Drug makers big and small have jumped in to try to develop a vaccine, which would be the most effective way to contain the virus. The furthest along in the clinical process is an experimental vaccine developed by Hong Kong-listed CanSino Biologics Inc. and the Beijing Institute of Biotechnology, which is in phase 2. The other two being tested in humans are treatments developed separately by U.S. drug makers Moderna Inc. and Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc., according to a WHO document.
