No loss of smell but fatigue, body pain are major symptoms of Omicron variant of Covid-19

Dec. 3: Fatigue, body aches and pains are the major Covid-19 Omicron variant symptoms. This was stated by Dr Angelique Coetzee, who is the Chairperson of South African Medical Association. “Also, some of the patients got quite a severe headache and tiredness,” added Dr Coetzee. However, she mentioned that no patient of Omicron variant experienced loss of smell/ taste, severely blocked nose or severe temperature.

“For now, we do not know that the vaccines will protect you against the disease at this stage because irrespective of age group and comorbidities, people who have been vaccinated, have had mild disease, added Dr. Angelique Coetzee.

The Omicron variant was reported in South Africa on 24 November, 2021. While travel related cases were reported in several countries between 27 November and 1 December, a transmission related case was detected in Portugal on 30 November. Cases of the variant have been found in South Africa, USA, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Canada, Germany, Hong-Kong, Israel, UK and several other countries.
