No lockdown as of now, but all should take the vaccine, says CM Assam

Oct. 24: There has been a spike in the number of coronavirus cases in the state after the Durga Puja celebrations. Assam continued to record more than 300 for the fifth day in a row on Saturday. Assam recorded 324 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, thereby taking the number of active cases to 2,621. Amid this, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while replying to a query by a journalist cleared the air by stating that there would be no lockdown in the state as of now. He, however, added that everyone will have to take the vaccine.

Earlier, just after the end of Durga Puja, State Health Minister indicated that his department is keeping a strict watch on the fresh number of positive patients detected on a daily basis. If there is a substantial rise, then more strict restrictions will be imposed in the state.

There is an apprehension of the advent of the third wave. In this backdrop, health officials revealed that Assam has prepared itself in terms of health infrastructure, if at all the third wave sets its footsteps.
