Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park to be renamed as Orang National Park
Sept. 1: In the weekly Assam Cabinet on 1 September, several key decisions regarding assistance for kin of deceased COVID victims, COVID expenses to DCs, fund disbursal for Orunodoi scheme, nomenclature of Orang National Park, Govt jobs for sportspersons among others. The Cabinet Meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
KEY DECISIONS:
Orang National Park: Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park to be renamed as Orang National Park, taking cognizance of the demands of Adivasi and tea tribe communities
Appointment of Sports persons: Boxing champion Jamuna Boro and archery champion Sanjay Boro to be appointed as Excise Inspectors Appointment letters will be given to them on September 3, which will be observed as State Sports Day on the occasion of Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah’s birthday.

COVID funds: Approved sanction of Rs 660 cr to Deputy Commissioners of different districts as COVID-related expenditure.
Orunodoi made easier: Waiving of Fixation of Ceiling (FoC) system for disbursal of Orunodoi benefits
Aid for COVID victims’ kin: 6,500 beneficiaries, who are next of kin of deceased COVID victims, to get one-time grant of Rs 1 Iakh under Prarthana scheme. Guardian Ministers to hand over the amount to the beneficiaries in respective districts on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
