National Sports Day Celebrated at Assam University
বিভিন্ন প্রতিযোগিতায় জাতীয় ক্রীড়া দিবস পালিত আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২৯ আগস্ট : বিভিন্ন প্রতিযোগিতামূলক কার্যক্রমের মাধ্যমে শুক্রবার জাতীয় ক্রীড়া দিবস পালিত হল আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে। এদিন বেলা এগারোটায় কিংবদন্তি হকি খেলোয়াড় মেজর ধ্যান চাঁদের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি জানিয়ে অনুষ্ঠানের সূচনা করেন ভারপ্রাপ্ত উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক অশোক কুমার সেন। এরপর উপাচার্যের নেতৃত্বে অধ্যাপক, শিক্ষাকর্মী ও ছাত্রছাত্রীরা জাতীয় ক্রীড়া দিবসের শপথবাক্য পাঠ করেন।

উদ্বোধনী ভাষণে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্পোর্টস বোর্ডের ডিরেক্টর অধ্যাপক এম. তিনেশ্বরী দেবী জাতীয় ক্রীড়া দিবসের তাৎপর্য ব্যাখ্যা করেন। সিডিসি ডিরেক্টর তথা ভারপ্রাপ্ত নিবন্ধক জয়ন্ত ভট্টাচার্য বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে চরিত্র ও শৃঙ্খলা গঠনে খেলাধুলার গুরুত্বের কথা তুলে ধরেন। ভারপ্রাপ্ত উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক সেন সুস্থ জীবনধারা বজায় রাখতে খেলাধুলার প্রয়োজনীয়তার ওপর জোর দেন।

এদিন বিভিন্ন ক্রীড়া প্রতিযোগিতাও আয়োজিত হয়। এরমধ্যে ছিল ছাত্রছাত্রীদের জন্য ১০০ ও ৪০০ মিটার দৌড়, চামচ দৌড় সহ অন্যান্য ট্র্যাক-এন্ড-ফিল্ড ইভেন্ট। এতে অধ্যাপকরাও উৎসাহের সঙ্গে অংশগ্রহণ করেন। আয়োজিত হয় বিশেষ দাবা প্রতিযোগিতাও। শেষে বিজয়ীদের হাতে পুরস্কারও তুলে দেওয়া হয়।

অনুষ্ঠানে আইকেএস ডিরেক্টর তথা এনএসএস প্রোগ্রাম সমন্বয়ক অধ্যাপক এম গঙ্গাভূষণ, অর্থনীতি ও বাণিজ্য অনুষদের ডিন অধ্যাপক এমএ আনসারি, পদার্থ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের প্রধান অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস, আউটা সভাপতি ড. মৃত্যুঞ্জয় কৃষ্ণ সিং, কৃষি প্রকৌশল বিভাগের প্রধান ড. অজিতা তিওয়ারি, ড. বিশ্বরঞ্জন রায়, ড. ইন্দ্রাণী দাস, ড. লালজো এস. থাংজোম, অধ্যাপক মাহাতো, ড. নরেন্দ্র টি. ড. কৈবল্য টি. দেশাই প্রমুখ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

Way2barak, August 29 : Assam University, Silchar, celebrated National Sports Day 2025 with great enthusiasm at the University Football Ground on Saturday. The programme began at 11:00 AM with a floral tribute to Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, offered by the Vice-Chancellor (I/c) Prof. Asoke Kumar Sen. This was followed by the recitation of the National Sports Day Pledge, led by the Vice-Chancellor and joined by faculty, staff, and students.

In her inaugural address, Prof. M. Tineshowri Devi, Director of the Sports Board, highlighted the significance of the day and the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand. Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharjee, Registrar (i/c) and Director, CDC, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of sports in building character and discipline. The Vice-Chancellor (I/c) , Prof. Sen encouraged students and faculty to actively engage in sports and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
As part of the celebration, various sporting events were organized by the Assam University Sports Board. These included 100-metre and 400-metre races for men and women students, along with a spoon race and other track-and-field events. Faculty members also participated with enthusiasm, with a special chess competition adding to the excitement of the day.

The event was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including Prof. Gangabhushan M. (Director, IKS, and Programme Coordinator of NSS), Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das (Head, Department of Physics), Dr. Mrityunjay Kr. Singh (AUTA President), Dr. Bishwa Ranjan Roy, Dr. Ajita Tiwari (Head, Department of Agricultural Engineering), Dr. Indrani Das, Dr. Lalzo S. Thangjom, Prof. M. Ansari (Dean, School of Economics), Prof. Mahato, Dr. Narendra T., Dr. Kaivalya T. Desai.
The celebration witnessed active participation of faculty, staff, research scholars, and students, making the occasion a memorable one.
