National Reading Day celebrated in Cachar

June 19: “Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” National Reading Day was celebrated in Cachar district on 19 June in a befitting manner. The day is celebrated in honour of Father of India’s Library Movement, Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker.

The country honours the man who not only initiated libraries in his home state, but was in fact responsible for the cultural movement to advocate reading in the state of Kerala. The programme in Cachar was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education), Rajib Roy, DEEO and other officials and teachers.
