Municipal Election: Training of poll parties to begin at Silchar Govt Boys school on 22 February

Feb. 19: State Election Commission has announced the schedule for elections to 80 Municipal Boards of Assam today. Elections will be held on 6 March, 2022 and results will be declared on 9 March, 2022.  Assam State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar stated that it is for the first time in the history of Assam that M2 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used during the Municipal elections.

It is in this connection that election to Lakhipur and Lala Municipal Boards will also be held on 6 March, 2022. It is in this connection that the Training Cell will be conducting training of Presiding Officers, polling staff, counting supervisors and counting staff. In an order issued by DDC Rajib Roy on Saturday, it was informed that a 5-day training schedule of poll parties was announced. The training will take place at Govt Boys HS School, Silchar. The training will take place on 22, 25, 28 February and 3 to 4 March, 2022. The training will be held in two shifts, from 11 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 4 PM.

Himashri Deka, Assistant Commissioner, Cachar was entrusted the onus of officer in-charge of the training session. Further, a total of 6 Master Trainers were drafted for conducting the training sessions. They are: Dr Apratim Nag & Joydeep Paul of GC College, Sudarshan Gupta & Arunabha Bhattacharjee of Radhamadhab College, Dr Gongesh Bhattacharjee of JN Singh College and Dr Saumitra Nath from Silchar Polytechnic. Further SB Dutta Choudhury, Development Officer of LIC was also drafted to liaison with the Master Trainers and provide necessary support to them.

Earlier, the First Level Checking (FLC) of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to be used for Municipal Elections was done at ISTT, Silchar in the presence of Magistrates. DDC Rajib Roy, Master Trainers, Magistrates and other officials of the concerned department were demonstrated the EVMs by the Engineers of ECIL during the FLC.
