MP Rajdeep Roy rushes to SMCH, examines the injured & instructs to provide free treatment

October 30: The ‘killer’ truck which entered Silchar town area during no-entry hours crushed 2 young girls to death and injured 19 others at Meherpur area on Wednesday night. Out of the 19 injured, the condition of two of them were reported to be serious. All are at present admitted at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). On getting the news, Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy too rushed to the spot and was seen to interact with Additional Police Superintendent Jagadish Das. He was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque, ADC Rajib Roy and others.

Meanwhile, the SMCH authority made all arrangements of offering proper treatment of the patients. X-rays were done immediately. Dr. Rajdeep Roy, an orthopedic surgeon himself, personally examined each and every patient’s report and instructed the hospital management and on duty doctors to provide all necessary investigations free of cost.

Later on speaking to newsmen, Dr. Roy said, “All the injured are taken proper care here in SMCH. All necessary tests like X-ray, CT Scan etc. are being done for each one of the injured. Necessary instruction from the state government has also been communicated to the Principal and Superintendent of SMCH to provide all investigations, treatment and medicines free of cost. We have appealed to the government for immediate grant of ex-gratia to the family of the deceased. The two young girls who died belong to very poor families. We are striving hard to provide financial help to the bereaved families. I am sure that tommorow we will be able to declare the amount of ex-gratia.”

Expressing his displeasure at the entry of the truck during no-entry hours, the MP said, “The driver responsible for this disgusting act is in police custody. However, the entry of truck in the town area during no-entry is definitely a lapse on the part of the police. I along with Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque have created pressure upon the police administration to suspend the on duty traffic police at that time in Rangirkhari point. A few days ago photo journalist Molin Sharma was killed by a tipper and also the death of my teacher Jagadish Chakraborty is indeed very disturbing. I would appeal to maintain peace and tranquility. The loss which has occured cannot be compensated but our government will endeavour to provide proper treatment to the injured so that they can get cured soon.”
