MP Dr Rajdeep Roy meets Education Minister, demands to upgrade 3 colleges of Barak to Universities
MP Silchar raises issue of provincialisation of Commerce Deptt of Radhamadhab College
Nov. 27: Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy met Dr Ranouj Pegu, Education Minister of Assam and discussed in Guwahati on Saturday about the upgradation of Guru Charan College, Silchar, Cachar College, Silchar and Karimganj College of Barak Valley to University.
Recently, the state government announced upgradation of 5 colleges of Assam to Universities. However, none of the college from Barak Valley featured in this list of 5 colleges. This created a lot of discontent among the people of the Valley. It was then that Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy took up the matter and met state Education Minister Minister. He urged upon the Minister to upgrade the 3 colleges of Barak Valley (GC College, Cachar College & Karimganj College) to Universities.
Dr Rajdeep Roy also brought to the attention the issue of provincialisation of Commerce Deptt of Radhamadhab College, Silchar. The College was established in 1971 with only Arts faculty. The Commerce department was set up in the year 2007 and was simultaneously affiliated by Assam University, Silchar.
Taking to his twitter handle, MP Silchar wrote, “Dr Pegu is a scholarly man with a vision and we have a lot of expectation from him.”
