Model Anganwadi center inaugurated in Cachar with a plethora of facilities

July 20: Chairman of Cachar Zilla Parishad, Amitabh Rai along with Deputy Commissioner Cachar, Keerthi Jalli inaugurated Anganwadi Centre and Solar Street lights at Barsangan Grant Village, Tapang Block under Pradhan Mantri Adharsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY) here on Tuesday.

While speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli said, “Anganwadi centres in the villages will be set up with a huge lot of facilities like pre-school meals, conselling facility for pregnant women, adolescent counselling room, kitchen with Ujjala gas connection. I am appealing to the pregnant women to come to the Anganwadi centres.”

DC Cachar also stressed for providing nutritious diet which would also help in overcoming those with iron deficiency. “Let the owners of the Anganwadi Centre take proper care so that everything goes on in proper order. I urge upon the people of the village to grow vegetables and fruits in the garden. The people of the area must take the initiative to grow vegetables over here, which when consumed from the garden by the children will get immense nutrition. This will give birth to a healthy physical environment.”

The Deputy Commissioner further urged the people to take care of their health during te ongoing pandemic. She urged upon them to wear face masks and maintain distance. DC Jalli stressed upon the importance of following Covid appropriate behaviour. Emphasizing on the aspect, she said that the villages can set up an example for others by taking care of the children and the women. This would definitely result in collective good for the society.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman of Cachar Zilla Parishad, Amitabh Rai said that this Anganwadi center has been set up in Tapang Block under PMAGY to facilitate the villagers and an amount of Rs 7 lakh was spent for the construction of the Anganwadi center. He appealed to the villagers to avail the benefits of this scheme. While emphasising about the performance of the district, he stated that Cachar has recently won the prestigious SKOCH award for ‘Pusti Nirbhor’, a convergence project on the transformation and setting up of nutri-garden in Dinnathpur Bagicha of Cachar District.

Amitabh Rai also said said that, if any self-help group is interested to set up their own nutri-garden in the area,  necessary funds will be allocated under MGNREGA scheme. He mentioned that recently in a tweet, NITI Aayog has appreciated Cachar District Administration for its outstanding performance for setting up of nutri-garden in Dinnathpur Bagicha. He congratulated DC Cachar for this achievement.

It is pertinent to mention that these schemes were approved by the Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. These villages were selected by the Govt. of India and a total of 62 such villages have been identified for conversion into Model Villages under Pradhan Mantri Adarsha Gram Yojana. In addition to departmental activities of Prabhat Pheri, Cleanliness Drive, Covid Awareness Programme, Beti Bachao Beti Padao have also been organised in these villages. Over and above, gap filling and convergence categories have been taken under PMAGY.

Earlier, District Development Commissioner, Cachar Rajib Roy explained the objectives and purpose of the programme. District Social Welfare Officer, Cachar, Saswati Som also spoke on the occasion and expressed her gratitude towards the Deputy Commissioner for the initiative taken by her for upgrading the Anganwadi centers of Social Welfare Department. She appealed to all the parents and guardians to send their children in the Anganwadi centers to avail all the benefits of ICDS rendered by the government.

Saswati Som also requested all the Anganwadi workers , Anganwadi helpers and Child Development Project Officer to work honestly and look after the pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls of the area by screening of severely acute malnutrition and moderately acute malnutrition children, so that no one is deprived from the ICDS scheme.

Later ,Zilla Parishad Chairman Amitabh Rai and DC Cachar Keerthi Jalli planted saplings on the occasion and pupils took oath on punctuality by banging their palm impressions on the wall of the Anganwadi center. Senior Planning Officer, Planning and Development Branch, Cachar, Ruli Daulagupu, Block Development Officer, Tapang, Probal Dasgupta and Engineer of the Project, Sailesh Singh were present on the occasion.
