Mizo student bodies burn copies of meeting between DCs of Mamit & Karimganj
Nov. 2: In an act of defiance, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) and Mizo Students’ Union (MSU), the two major Mizo student bodies have taken a dig at the Deputy Commissioner of Mamit district (in Mizoram) for attending a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj on the border dispute held at in Issabeel Tea Estate on 31 October. The student bodies further burnt the copies of the minutes of the meeting held between the two Deputy Commissioners. The MZP burnt the copy near Vanapa hall, the MSU burnt it in front of the Chief Minister’s Office
The Mizo student bodies further raised the demand of immediate transfer of Mamit Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Lalrozama and Superintendent of Police Shashank Jaiswal. The student bodies slammed the DC of Mamit for meeting his Karimganj counterpart Anbamuthan MP “against the interest of the people of Mizoram.” Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) stated that they will continue to oppose any talks between the two governments till the blockade on the National Highway-306 is lifted and the inter-state border dispute is resolved.
The district administration level meeting scheduled to be held on last Saturday between Kolasib District Deputy Commissioner H. Lalthlangliana and Keerthi Jalli, Cachar Deputy Commissioner had to be cancelled as the former was prevented by protesters at Vairengte.
