Minister Rai visited relief camps

way2barak, June 2 : Minister Kaushik Rai embarked on a comprehensive visit to flood relief camps and vulnerable embankments across Silchar. With large parts of Cachar district inundated by incessant rainfall, the Minister’s visit served as a reassuring presence for thousands displaced by the disaster.

On monday, Minister Rai’s tour began with visits to several key relief shelters, including those at Cachar High School, Malugram Girls High School, Devi Prasad Nimna Prathamik Vidyalaya, and Joykumar Balika Vidyalaya. At each location, he personally interacted with flood-affected residents, attentively listening to their concerns and ensuring that essential supplies such as food, clean water, medicine, and hygiene provisions were being distributed without delay.

In coordination with District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, Minister Rai further extended his inspection to strategic flood defense points, including the embankments at Berenga Nathpara and Bethukandi, vital barriers in safeguarding Silchar from further inundation. Accompanied by officials of the Water Resources Department, he conducted an on-site evaluation of these structures and immediately ordered reinforcements at vulnerable sections, emphasizing the need for preventive measures before situations escalate.

Continuing his on-ground review, the Minister visited the sluice gates at Suratara and Srikona Part-II, along with the Banglaghat sluice gate and the flood-affected National Highway stretch near Shalchapra. His detailed inspections and subsequent directives to officials highlighted his unwavering focus on infrastructure resilience and disaster preparedness in the face of persistent rainfall and waterlogging.

This was stated in a press release issued by the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Assam.
