way2barak, Dec.20: A social community which was working under the name of “Milaap” during the devastating flood in Silchar has now officially reincarnated as “Sang Chal” and with a brand new board of directors & council members.

Dola Deb, Founder of Ujjibon Spastic Society was the chief guest in this installation ceremony, where she inaugurated the event by breaking a coconut and offering it to Goddess Saraswati, marking the start of this auspicious journey of Sang Chal Milaap. This was followed by a group dance performed by the children of Ujjibon Spastic Society.

The installation of the council and board of directors was done by Surojit Shome (president of Smile) , Soumitra Dutta (Lifeline Foundation), Joydeep Chakraborty (President of Joy Radhe Sabha Samithi) and other social activists of Barak Valley. Sucharita Dhar has been nominated as President, who is also the founder of this NGO. Jhonkar Paul became the Vice President whereas Anupama Dhar adorned the post of Secretary.

Milaap during flood helped around 15, 000 families with food relief, distributed 40,000 litres of water, sanitised all 28 wards with 1,000 kg bleaching powder. Also, gave house rebuilding materials to Sporsho Animal Shelter, which was damaged by flood (Table Fans, Wires, Wall Paint) & provided bricks, cement, steel and rebuilt an entire house for Sabita Rishi, whose family is below poverty line.

This NGO in last 6 months did 7 projects and donated huge lot of clothes to flood victims of Silchar. In 2023, Sang Chal Milaap will work in the sector of women empowerment, education & environment. “We believe we can’t empower women, if we don’t empower men, and hence we coined the name “Sang Chal” which signifies both men and women working together to defeat social injustice on women. Thank you all for blessing us with so much love and affection, and keep us in your prayers so that we can continue working for the development of Barak Valley,” said Sucharita Dhar, President of this organisation.
