Meet held to discuss implementation of PCPNDT Act
Sept.18: A meeting of the District Advisory Committee was held for implementation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994, (PCPNDT Act) in Hailakandi on Friday. A meeting that took place at the Office of Joint Director, Health Services discussed a gamut of issues relating to the implementation of the PCPNDT Act to stop sex selection by means of certain basic and vital compliances that genetic labs and clinics etc have to follow in keeping records and submitting these for scrutiny to the appropriate authority and for re-registration.
In Hailakandi district, four USG clinics are functional out of seven. The committee has decided to obtain information on the status of the non-functional ones. The members of the committee underscored the need for implementation of the PCPNDT Act in letter and spirit so that no unscrupulous sections could conduct sex determination tests in any manner, as sex determination is strictly prohibited before or after conception.
Member Secretary, District Advisory Committee cum Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer (Family Welfare), Dr. Rehana Begum and other members of the District Advisory Committee were present.
