Maulana Fazlul Karim suspended by AIUDF after being arrested for pro-Taliban posts
Aug 22: GP Singh, Special DGP, Assam informed on Saturday, “Assam Police has arrested 14 persons for social media posts regarding Taliban activities that have attracted provisions of law of the land. People are advised to be careful in posts/likes etc on social media platforms to avoid penal action.” Out of them, one is Maulana Fazul Karim Kashimi (49) from Darrang district of Assam who was also arrested by Assam Police on Saturday for pro-Taliban posts in social media platform.
The 49-year Maulana Fazul Karim apart from being the leader of state Jamiyat Ulema-e Hind was also the General Secretary of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) headed by Maulana Badar Uddin Azmal. He himself gave a post in support of the Taliban in his Facebook wall, following which Darrang Police arrested him from his house at Mangaldoi.
Meanwhile, on Saturday itself, after the news of the arrests went viral, AIUDF suspended Maulana Fazul Karim from the post of its General Secretary. As per sources, he was also removed from the post of Secretary of Jamiat.
Reacting to such ugly developments, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “Need cooperation from every one to maintain peace and harmony. I have directed Assam Police to act without fear and favour.” Apart from Maulana Fazul Karim, the 13 others arrested by Assam Police in this connection are are:

- Saidul Haque (29) from Kamrup Rural
- Jawed Mazumder from Cachar
- Mozidul Islam (25) from Barpeta
- Faruk Hussain Khan (32) from Barpeta
- Saiyad Ahmed (27) from Dhubri
- Arman Hussain (25) from Dhubri
- Nadim Akthar (23) from Hailakandi
- Khandakar Nur Alam from South Salmara
- Maulana Yaseen Khan (26) from Goalpara
- Maulana Basiruddin Laskar (65) from Hojai
- Mujib Uddin from Karimganj
- Mortuza Hussain Khan from Karimganj
