Major twist: BPF snap ties with BJP, joins Congress-led Grand Alliance
Feb. 27: Politics is all about twists and turns. True to this saying, a major twist occured in Assam politics just ahead of the Assam Assembly Elections, 2021. Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary on Saturday announced that it is going to snap its ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the Congress-led Grand Alliance. The BPF joining the grand alliance means the battle for Bodoland becomes more intense.
To work for Peace, Unity and Development the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has decided to join hands with MAHAJATH in the forthcoming Assam Assembly Election. We shall no longer maintain friendship or alliance with BJP.

With the joining of BPF, the Congress-led Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) will now comprise of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) Liberation, the Anchalik Gana Marcha (AGM) along with the Congress & BPF. Last year, BPF emerged as the single-largest party in the BTC polls in December, winning 17 seats in the 40-member body.
