Madrasa Board & govt-run Madrasas in Assam to be shut in November

Oct. 10: Even as minority organizations cry foul over BJP government’s move of disbanding the government run Madrasas and Madrasa Board in Assam, the state government seems to be in no mood to take back its decision. Education Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma categorically stated that all the government-run Madrasas in Assam will be shut from November, 2020.

In a notification by the state secondary school education department to the Directorate of Education, it was stated that the government has taken a decision to close down all the Madrassas in the state. Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier said that the Assam government will only promote secular and modern education. He also added that the Madrassa Board will be dissolved and the academics of the institutions will be handed over to the Board of Secondary Education. He, however, mentioned that the Madrassas run by mosques and Sanskrit tols run by non-government organizations will face no effect by the decision.
