Charge sheet against 6 accused filed by NIA in case of human trafficking of Rohingyas & Bangladeshi Muslims into India

June 5: In a significant development, National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a press release issued on Sunday informed that it has filed charge sheet on 4 June, 2022 against six accused in case of human trafficking of Rohingyas & Bangladeshi Muslims into India. The charge sheet was filed before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati. Out of the 6 accused, five of them are from Cachar whereas one is from Meghalaya.

The charge sheet was filed against the following six accused persons U/S 120B, 370(3) and 370(5) of IPC:

  1. Kumkum Ahmed Choudhury @ K K Ahmed Chaudhury @ Asiqul Ahmed S/o- Siraj Uddin Choudhury, R/o- Village- Khelma, PO-Gumrah, PS- Katigorah, District Cachar, Assam.
  2. Ahiya Ahmed Choudhury S/o- Siraj Uddin Choudhury, R/o- Village- Khelma, PO-Gumrah, PS-Katigorah, District Cachar, Assam.
  3. Bapan Ahmed Choudhury S/o- Siraj Uddin Choudhury, R/o- Village- Khelma, PO-Gumrah, PS-Katigorah, District Cachar, Assam.
  4. Sahalam Laskar S/o- Watir Ali Laskar @ Otiyar Ali Laskar, R/o- Village – Khelma , P0- Gumrah, PS – Katigorah, District -Cachar, Assam.
  5. Jamaluddin Choudhury S/o- Jalal Uddin Choudhury, R/o- Village – Khelma , PO – Gumrah, PS-Katigorah, District – Cachar, Assam.
  6. Wanbiang Suting S/o- Briwel Pohktai, Village- Donaskul, PS- Lumshnong District – East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.

The case pertains to trafficking of Rohingyas/ Bangladeshis into India for the purpose of exploitation and in order to settle them in India permanently on the basis of fake Indian documents. The case was registered suo-moto by NIA on 27 December, 2021.

Investigation has revealed that the accused persons were involved in organised human trafficking of Rohingyas/ Bangladeshi minor girls, women in association with other conspirators based in different parts of India and Bangladesh. The accused had arranged for transportation, accommodation, procurement of fake documents etc. for the trafficked Rohingya victims. Further investigation in the case is being done by the NIA.
