‘Let her rot in jail,’ said father of girl who shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’
February 21: Vojald, the father of Amulya Leona Noronha, who lives in Chickmagalur has said that he was shocked by his daughter’s conduct adding, “Let her rot in jail. I don’t mind if police break her bones, I don’t support what she said and I will not approach lawyers for her bail. She has committed a grave mistake,” reported Deccan Herald. Amulya has been charged with sedition and has been remanded to judicial custody till 23 February.
Amulya was invited to speak at an anti-CAA rally at Freedom Park in Bengaluru by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Hindu Muslim Sikh Isaai Federation. As AIMIM Chief Assaddudin Owaisi left the stage, Amulya came on and shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ three times trying to elaborate her point. AIMIM activists snatched the mic from her. She continued without the mic and followed that chant with ‘Hindustan Zindabad.’ Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM chief and MP tried to snatch the mic away from her but in vain. But before she could go any further, two policemen and the small crowd gathered around her and then she was dragged off stage.
As Amulya cools her heels in judicial custody, her family home was pelted with stones. In fact, her father has reportedly refused to hire a lawyer to present her case and News 18 quoted him as he said, “Let my daughter rot in jail. Let the police break her legs. I have no objection. She has caused so much misery to my family.” Her father has called her misguided and it seems like she won’t have any support from him.
Amulya Leona Noronha is a 19-year-old student activist who vocal in her anti-CAA speeches. Her father said that he had told her not to talk in that manner on several occasions.
