Lecture on Sanatan Dharma & Sri Aurobindo delivered by Diganta Biswa Sarma at Radhamadhab College
March 16: To commemorate the completion of 50 years of the completion of Radhamadhab College, Silchar, a public lecture entitled, “Sanatan Dharma in the light of Sri Aurobindo’s Uttarpara Speech and his five dreams” was delivered at Radhamadhab College by eminent scholar and Sahitya Academy Translation Awardee, Diganta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday.
The topic assumed great significance in the backdrop of 150 years of the birth of Sri Aurobindo and 75 years of Indian Independence. Both the events being significant landmarks in the history of India was a treat for the ears and the soul of the audience when juxtaposed by an erudite scholar and orator of the stature of Diganta Biswa Sarma.
Delivering the lecture at the conference hall of the college, Diganta Biswa Sarma said, “The Uttarpara speech is a public document containing some of the principles of yoga which Sri Aurobindo had evolved.” The speech was a bridge between Sri Aurobindo’s past life and his future spiritual discipline. “Even as the Hindu religion had risen from the subcontinent blessed with the Himalayas and the Ganges, the Sanatan Dharma has transcended across geographical barriers. The Sanatan Dharma has come across thousands of years down to us and will continue to guide the nation in its future strides and needs to be incorporated in the path of nation building, added Sri Sarma.
Earlier, Diganta Biswa Sarma, Er. Angshu Kumar Roy- Governing Body Member, Dr Debotosh Chakraborty- General Secretary of Bharatiya Sikshan Mandal, Assam University unit and Dr Debashish Roy, Principal of the college were invited to the dias and were felicitated with an uttorio and memento. In his welcome address, Dr Debasish Roy said, “Sanātana Dharma or the ‘the natural and eternal way to live’ would definitely get enriched when viewed through the lens of Sri Aurobindo. We would indeed be privileged to listen to this germane issue and try to internalise & implement the ideals of Sri Aurobindo and at the same time enhance love for our motherland.”
Er. Angshu Kumar Roy also thanked the guest speaker for his benign visit to the college and said, “We indeed look forward to listen to the words of wisdom & inspiration of Diganta Biswa Sarma.” Dr Debotosh Chakraborty highlighted the various aspects of Indian culture and urged upon all to come out of the colonial mindset and understand and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of our motherland. Sudarshan Gupta, Head of the Department of History delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Arunabha Battacharjee, Assistant Professor, Department of History.
Later on, a book written by Dr Debashish Roy, Principal of the college was formally released by Diganta Biswa Sarma. “The Refugees & their Identity Crisis: A History of Cachar (1950-54)” primarily discusses the refugee issue in Cachar. During the day, Diganta Biswa Sarma also unveiled the 1st issue of the wall magazine of Department of History entitled, “Revisiting Barak” in presence of Sudarshan Gupta, HoD of History, Principal of the college and other dignitaries.
