Last rites of 3 policemen of Hailakandi performed, people assemble in large numbers to pay homage
July 27: A total of six Assam Police jawans laid down their lives while securing the state border from Mizo aggression. Mizo forces fired indiscriminately on Monday, in which six policemen till now were killed. Around 60 more police personnel including Police Superintendent of Cachar and OC Dholai were injured. Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma came to Silchar and offered his last tribute to the slain policemen at the office of Police Super, Cachar on Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, 3 of the deceased policemen are of Hailakandi district, whose last rites were performed on Tuesday. During the day, the last rites of Sub Inspector Swapan Kr Roy was also performed. He was a resident of Ward No 9 of Hailakandi Town. A huge number of people assembled at his house on Tuesday evening at Gautam Roy lane to pay their last tribute to Swapan Kr Roy. Later on, his mortal remains were taken to Hailakandi crematorium where the last rites were performed.
The late Sub Inspector Swapan Kr Roy is survived by his school going girl, wife, mother, younger brother and a host of relatives. The slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Joy’ rented the entire atmosphere while his dead body was taken to the Hailakandi crematorium on Tuesday night.
