Khadi Commission orders closure of its Silchar Divisional office

২ জানুয়ারিঃ শিলচর থেকে ডিভিশনাল অফিস তুলে নেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে খাদি ও গ্রামোদ্যোগ কমিশন। এটি এখন গুয়াহাটির রাজ্য দফতরের সঙ্গে মিশে যাবে। সে জন্য এখানকার অফিস ছেড়ে দিতে নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে। এখানকার বাড়িভাড়া মিটিয়ে তল্পিতল্পা গুটিয়ে নিতেই বলা হয়েছে। কাগজেপত্রে ১ জানুয়ারি থেকেই শিলচর ডিভিশনাল অফিসের অস্তিত্ব নেই বলে মুম্বাই থেকে জানিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে।

খাদি ও গ্রামোদ্যোগ কমিশনের ডেপুটি চিফ এগজিকিউটিভ অফিসার (উত্তর-পূর্ব) ডি ধনপাল ২৬ ডিসেম্বর চিঠি পাঠিয়ে শিলচরের ডিরেক্টরকে এ ব্যাপারে প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যবস্থা নিতে বলেছেন।

এই খবরে শিলচর সহ বরাক উপত্যকায় ক্ষোভ দেখা দিয়েছে। শিলচরে দীর্ঘকাল ধরে খাদি ও গ্রামোদ্যোগের সাব-অফিস ছিল। বছর কয়েক আগে তা ডিভিশনাল অফিসে উন্নীত হয়। তাতে এই অঞ্চলের মানুষ বেশ উপকৃত হচ্ছিলেন। বিশেষ করে গ্রামোদ্যোগের ঋণ নিয়ে স্বনির্ভর হয়েছেন বহু মানুষ। আচমকা এমন সিদ্ধান্তে বিস্মিত অনেকে। কমিশনের প্রাক্তন ডিরেক্টর তথা নর্থ-ইস্ট চেয়ারম্যান শরিফুজ্জামান লস্কর বলেন, সাব-অফিসকে ডিভিশনাল অফিসে উন্নীত করতে বহু কাঠখড় পোড়াতে হয়েছিল তাঁকে। এখন একে পুরোপুরি গুটিয়ে নিতে কোনওমতেই দেওয়া হবে না। তার কথায়, ডিভিশনাল অফিসকে সাব-অফিসে নামানো যেতে পারে। কিন্তু একেবারে তল্পিতল্পা গুটিয়ে নেওয়ার নির্দেশকে তিনি বরাকবঞ্চনার আরেক নজির বলেই উল্লেখ করেন।

January 2: Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) have decided to close its Divisional Office at Silchar. KVIC Mumbai has decided to merge it with State office in Guwahati. In this regard, it was also directed to vacate the Silchar office of KVIC. As per the office order, the Divisional Office of Silchar KVIC ceases to exist from 1 January, 2019.

D. Dhanapal, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (North-East Zone) of Khadi and Village Industries Commission has issued a notification on 26 December, 2018 to the Silchar Directorate to take necessary action in this regard.

This news has led to severe repercussion at Silchar and entire Barak Valley. A Sub-Office of KVIC existed at Silchar since a long period of time. A few years ago, this Sub-Office was elevated to the status of Divisional Office. Since then many people of the rural area became self-dependent by taking loan from Village Industries.

Former Director of the Commission cum its North-East Chairman Sariffuzaman Laskar said that he had to burn the midnight oil to elevate the status of this sub-office to that of Divisional Office. He failed to reason out this abrupt decision of KVIC. Mr. Laskar said that a Divisional office can be relegated to the status of sub-office, but to pack up the entire office is nothing but another act of deprivation towards Barak Valley.
