Justice Arun Kumar Mishra appointed as head of NHRC
June 3: Justice Arun Kumar Mishra, former judge of Supreme Court took charge as the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Council (NHRC) on Wednesday. Justice Mishra became the judge of the Supreme Court in 2014 and retired on September, 2020. He was enrolled as a lawyer in 1978. As Chairperson of NHRC, his tenure will be for five years or till he attains the age of 70, whichever is earlier. The post of NHRC chief was lying vacant almost 6 months since former Chief Justice of India H L Dattu retired in December last year.
