ISKCON writes to UN protesting against brutal attack on temples & devotees in Bangladesh

Oct. 16: After vandalising Durga Pauja pandals and breaking idols at several places in Bangladesh, fresh violence was unleashed against the Hindus. On 15 October, ISKCON temple and devotees were violently attacked by a mob of around 200 people in Noakhali, Bangladesh. Taking to its twitter handle, ISKCOn wrote, “ISKCON temple & devotees violently attacked in Noakhali, Bangladesh. Temple suffered significant damage & the condition of a devotee remains critical. We call on the Govt of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all Hindus & bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Condemning brutal attack by a mob on ISKCON devotees in Bangladesh’s Noakhali and killing of an ashram devotee, ISKCON Vice-President Radharaman Das wrote to the United Nations on Saturday requesting the United Nations to issue condemnation of “violence against the Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh” and send their delegates to Bangladesh to look into the matter. He also wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi seeking his intervention into the matter.

“Yesterday a mob of 200 plus entered our ISKCON Noakhali premises and unleashed terror for 3 hours. One of our devotees was killed and many were missing. Many are critically injured and fighting for their lives. Today morning we found the dead body of our ashram devotees Partha Das who was missing since yesterday evening, floating in the temple pond,” Das’ wrote in his letter to the United Nations.

Partha Das was a 25-year-old devotee who was allegedly killed. “Partha Das was brutally murdered with sharp weapons, was found today morning floating in the temple pond,” he added. “Our ISKCON temple was completely vandalized and many portions have been completely burnt. All our deities have been broken. Altogether 150 houses nearby were looted and vandalized,” the letter elaborated on the gruesome scenario for the attack.
He also mentioned that the attacks on the Hindu minority community went unabated for the last nine days.

“Our ISKCON temple was completely vandalized and many portions has been completely burnt. All our deities have been broken. 150 houses near ISKCON temple were looted and vandalized. Currently there is curfew in the area, but unless the international community speaks against this cycle of violence which is going on for last 9 days, more people are going to be killed. We are hearing heart piercing news. In one family, they raped everyone including a 10-year-old child. We are still waiting to get the full picture as connectivity is down. We appeal to the United Nations to immediately issue condemnation of this cycle of violence against theHindus and other minorities of Bangladesh and to send a delegation to Bangladesh,” wrote ISKCON Vice President to the Secretary General of United Nations Organisation.
