Inner Wheel Club of Silchar celebrates 74th Independence Day
August 15: As the nation steps in the 74th year of its independence, the day was celebrated with full vigour throughout the length and breadth of the country maintaining Covid protocol. The outbreak of coronavirus pandemic has compelled to curtail the celebrations to a great extent, but that could hardly dampen the spirit. People hoisted the national flag keeping in mind the safety measures.
Along with others, Inner Wheel Club of Silchar too celebrated the 74th Independence Day. In the morning, the tricolour was hoisted in the premises of Rotary Club of Silchar followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The members of the Inner Wheel Club of Silchar then distributed face masks and nutritious food items like rice, dal, soyabean, cooking oil, salt and spices among 75 underprivileged daily labourers at the club premises.
Speaking to way2barak, President of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar, Sutapa Bhattacharjee said, “The members of IWC Silchar along with the Rotarians assembled in the morning and hoisted the national flag. We also distributed food items among the needy. However, due to outbreak of coronavirus, we refrained from organising any big gathering. The entire programme was undertaken following the Covid protocol.”
