Inner Wheel Club distributes utensil, diya & chocolates at Silchar Jail on the eve of Kali Puja

October 26: On a day marked by incessant rains, the members of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar braved the weather and set out to carry on their philanthropic activities. The destination on a rainy Saturday was Silchar Central Jail. The visit was marked on the eve of Kali Puja and Diwali. The members of Inner Wheel with a view to spread smiles among the prisoners undertook this task of visiting the jail.

Inner Wheel Club of Silchar visited Silchar Central Jail on Saturday afternoon and distributed utensil, diya and chocolates among the inmates. For the male prisoners, a big size vessel which can contain food for atleast 250 persons was donated by the Inner Wheel. To the female prisoners, earthen diyas (lamps) were given by the Club. For the kids staying inside the jail with their parents, the members of Inner Wheel Club brought chocolates.

Speaking to way2barak, Jhumki Saha, President of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar said, “Diwali symbolises the festival of light, the festival of victory of good over evil and the festival of illuminating the dark corners of our mind. It’s also the time to give up all negativity and move ahead towards the positive aspects of life. As such, we decided to visit the inmates of Silchar Central Jail and donated therein utensils for the male prisoners, earthen diyas for the female prisoners on the eve of Diwali and chocolates for the cute little kids. We pray and hope that all those inside will reform themselves and come out after completion of their term and lead a healthy normal life.”

Speaking during the occasion, Rotarian Benulal Barman, the past president who accompanied Inner Wheel said to the prisoners that the members of the Club came to their midst with the hope that they will start life afresh. He also advised the prisoners to change and reform themselves so that they could lead a normal life.

Satyendra Baishya, Jail Superintendent while speaking during the occasion thanked the members of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar for their generous contribution for the prisoners of Silchar Central Jail. He also said that the parent organisation of Inner Wheel, that is, the Rotary Club of Silchar also visits the jail from time to time and distributes essential commodities among them. Also present there were Jailor Abhishek Sarkar and Assistant Jailor Nabawdeep Lekharuh.

Apart from the Club President Jhumki Saha and Rotarian Benulal Barman, the other members of Inner Wheel Club who visited the Silchar Central Jail are Sampa Banik, Minu Gope, Mohul Mitra, Indrani Bhattacharjee Deb and Moumita Gupta.
