Illegal teak wood worth Rs. 30 lakh seized by forest officials in Cachar

March 17: On the basis of secret information, a raid was conducted in a premise under Sonai Sadar Range in Cachar district in which around 2,000 cubic feet of ‘illegal teak timber’ was stacked. The timber estimated to cost around Rs. 30 lakh was seized.

The team which led the operation was led by District Forest Officer Sunnydeo Choudhary along with Ashok Deb, I/c Protection Squad, Sahadat Ali, Range Officer, Sadar Range, Sams Uddin Lashkar, Range Officer and staff of protection squad, Moneirkhal Range, Sonai.

During the raid one illegal band saw was seized and dismantled by the team. As per forest officials, it was a massive operation against illegal timber trade in Cachar division, Silchar. A case has been registered in this connection.
