I feel satisfied & happy to have fulfilled my election promise: MLA Silchar

way2barak, Nov.29: Ahead of the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the  foundation stone for a ‘road widening & heavy guard wall project to protect both sides of Rangirkhal channel’ in Silchar town. The ₹42.06-cr project funded by Department of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt of Assam will rejuvenate the 17-km channel, which carries a huge volume of rain & storm water, and mitigate urban floods to a great extent.

Expressing his views, MLA Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty said, “A long pending problem of Silchar solved today with the foundation stone laying of both side guard wall to protect Rangirkhal. My heartfelt gratitude to Honourable Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for this thoughtful initiative and giving due importance to Silchar and its problems.This government under his able leadership is always at service for the common mass. With this, I also feel satisfied and happy to have fulfilled my election promise.”

Rangirkhal is one of the most important channels in Silchar. It originates from ‘Mahisha Beel’ in the eastern part of Silchar town located near river Barak. It then flow towards eastern direction across Silchar town carrying major storm water and finally discharges into river Ghagra. The total lengh of the channel is 17,000 metres. By rejuvenating the channel, the urban flood can be mitigated to a large extent.
