Himanta Biswa Sarma inspects under construction quarantine centre

April 25: State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma seems to leave no stones unturned in overseeing COVID-19 preparedness in Assam. He has been running from pillar to post to see to it that the deadly virus does not find its way to the community. After allowing inter-district movement of struck persons, he allowed them to return back to their home districts after observing all formalities and abiding by MHA guidelines. Meanwhile, he has also paved way for return of almost 400 students studying in Kota, who will be reaching Assam shortly.

On Saturday, the health minister along with Minister of State Pijush Hazarika, Minister Chandan Brahma, MP Biswajit Daimary visited Dhubri. He then went to Chapar and met with some doctors on the way. He also inspected the quarantine centres at Borkonda. Further, the team led by the health minister also checked an under construction quarantine centre for 700 people at Assam- West Bengal border. Though at present, the corona situation in Assam seems to be under control, but the state is preparing itself for the situation when lockdown will be over and people will start coming to the state.

Taking to his twitter handle, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “I, MoS @Pijush_hazarika, Min Chandan Brahma & MP @DaimaryMp visited Dhubri: First we went to Chapar; Met some doctors on way; inspected quarantine centre at Borkonda; & checked an under construction quarantine centre for 700 people at Assam-West Bengal border.”

The team led by Himanta Biswa Sarma also visited the under construction quarantine site at Kokhrajhar. This site will be ready soon. It will be a 1000-bed quarantine centre. 

Many apprehended fear that the minister is personally going to places where COVID-19 patients are released. However, dismissing all such fear, Himanta Biswa Sarma opined, “It is absolutely necessary to remove stigma about COVID-19 from people’s mind. Also I may need plasma of recovered patient to save some ones life. I am here for a much bigger mission.I am aware about my duty and responsibility and going to discharge that without fear and favour.”
