Hailakandi geared up for smooth conduct of counting of votes
May 1: The Hailakandi district administration has made all necessary arrangements for smooth conduct of counting of votes on Sunday. A three-tier security will be thrown in and around the Govt VM HS School counting centre to ensure peaceful conduct of counting process from 8 am.
The administration has promulgated Section 144 CrPC banning gathering, meeting, procession, rally and dharna in front of the counting venue. Six counting halls, two each for three LACs viz., 6 Hailakandi, 7 Katlicherra and 8 Algapur have been set up with seven tables each for counting of votes. District Election Officer, Megh Nidhi Dahal is supervising the arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the counting process. Different cells will be set up, including Materials, Media, Transport and IT. CCTVs have been installed in the counting halls and in the strong room.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has appointed Manisha Sentiya, Vinay Kumar Agarwal and Jang Bahadur Yadav as Counting Observers for 6 Hailakandi, 7 Katlicherra and 8 Algapur LACs respectively. They will be assisted by Returning Officers Megh Nidhi Dahal for 6 Hailakandi, Narendra Kumar Shah for 8 Algapur and Dhrubajyoti Deb for 7 Katlicherra.
Altogether 46 candidates are in the fray with 13 candidates for 6 Hailakandi, 14 for 7 Katlicherra and 19 for Algapur LAC. Hailakandi registered 82.33% of polling in the second phase on April 1.
