Govt Girls’ Alumni Association conducts free health camp for flood victims at Karatigram
May 25: The ongoing flood has affected a huge multitude of people in Cachar district. Although the river water has gone down considerably below the danger level, yet by then, many people were rendered homeless as river water flooded their home. As a good Samaritan, many individuals and organisations have come forward to help those people who are now staying in various relief camps.
The Alumni Association of Government Girls’ HS & MP School continued their humanitarian activities at this hour of crisis. Exactly five years ago, on 21 May, 2017, the Alumni Association of Government Girls’ HS & MP School was formed. However, due to the ongoing flood scenario, the Alumni Association refrained from organising any event to mark their 5th foundation day. Instead they thought out of the box to commemorate the day by standing besides those flood victims.
On Wednesday, the members of Alumni Association of Government Girls’ HS & MP School conducted a free health camp at the premises of Shib Mandir at Karatigram, Rongpur. Many people there took shelter on the main road, which also serves as the dyke, after their houses were flooded. The health camp was spearheaded by Dr Bijoy Laxmi Das Choudhury, the President of the Alumni Association along with Dr Orina Raha, Dr Abhiri Dutta and Dr Sandipan Paul, Free medicines were also distributed among them. A local organisation, Surabhi Sangha lend their support in the conduct of this free health camp.
Earlier on Monday, members of the Alumni Association of Government Girls’ HS & MP School, Silchar went to the Rongpur area, where quite a large number of flood victims took shelter on the road as their houses were flooded. The members of the association distributed food items to those people, which comprised of rice, pulses, soyabean, potato, edible oil, salt and other such items. Almost all those who had taken refuge on the road were distributed these items.
It needs mention here that in the midst of massive flood situation, the Alumni Association of Government Girls’ HS & MP School, Silchar came forward to lend a helping hand to the flood victims since last week. Many such flood victims have also taken shelter at Government Girls’ HS School, Silchar. On Sunday, the members of the Alumni Association of Government Girls’ HS & MP School conducted a free health check up camp for those who people who have taken shelter there due to flooding of their houses. Around 500 patients were examined and free medicines were also distributed.
