Global Hand-washing Day observed in Cachar
Oct. 15: Global Hand-washing Day is an annual global advocacy day dedicated to advocating for hand-washing with soap as an easy, effective, and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. Each year on October 15, Global Handwashing Day highlights the importance of hand-washing at home, in the community and around the world. Global Handwashing Day was founded by the Global Handwashing Partnership. The 2020 Global Handwashing Day theme is “Hand Hygiene for All.”
This day was promoted by the UN General Assembly when its first event took place during World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden. The first Global Handwashing Day was held in 2008, when over 200 million people around the world washed their hands with soap in more than 70 countries. Since 2008, community and national leaders have used Global Handwashing Day to spread the word about handwashing, build sinks and tippy taps, and demonstrate the simplicity and value of clean hands.
