Friday records 128 COVID-19 cases whereas 50 patients discharged

Active cases 1727 in Assam

June 5: Friday witnessed comparatively less number of coronavirus positive cases in Assam. A total of 128 COVID-19 cases were reported from Assam on 05 June. As people stranded outside the state started to pour in, the number of coronavirus cases has been on the rise. From one positive case in 31 March, it has now gone upto 2115 on 4 June. A hundred plus positive cases a day has become the norm now in Assam.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state was 2115 on 4 June. But on 5 June, the numbers went on increasing almost the whole day and reached 2243. Out of this, there are 1727 active cases in the state.  All eyes seemed to be on the twitter page of State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Here is the complete sequence of how the positive cases were reported on 5 June.

  • 5 June, 03.00 PM: 38 positive cases: 13 Darrang; 9 Dima Hasao; 7 Nagaon; 5 Sonitpur; 2 Hailakandi; 2 Karimganj.
  • 5 June, 11.05 PM: 90 positive cases: 37 Dhubri, 15 D Hasao, 7 K’ganj, 7 Cachar, 7 Baksa, 6 H’kandi, 3 Udalguri, 2 S Salmara, 2 Dhemaji, 1 each in Nalbari/Barpeta/Bongaigaon/Chirang.

Amidst this enveloping darkness, there were ofcourse some rays of hope on Friday as the total number of patients cured and discharged also went up to 50 in the state. Till now, a total of 509 patients were discharged in Assam. Let’s have a quick glance of the break-up of 50 patients who were discharged on 5 June:

  • 13 discharged from MMCH
  • 11 discharged from TMCH
  • 06 discharged from Golaghat CH
  • 05 discharged from JMCH
  • 03 discharged from AMCH
  • 01 discharged from SMCH
  • 11 discharged from FAAMCH

Meanwhile, there are multiple reports of people blatantly flouting quarantine norms and exhibiting unruly behaviour in institutional quarantine facilities. Such unruly attitude has become a challenge for the government in its attempt to contain the further spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state. Assam Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma gave a strict warning for all such violators. “We will register non-bailable cases against those violating quarantine norms. It will be considered as an attempt to murder,” said the minister.
