Frequent power cut for long hours on hot Saturday makes life miserable at Silchar

'Due to reduced generation from Kopili, OTPC & BTPS there is frequent load shedding': APDCL

October 19: Many persons got a message in their mobile on Saturday from Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) that power supply at Silchar will be interrupted on “19 October, 2019 from 13.31 to 14.15 due to miscellaneous.” Though as per the message, power supply was supposed to be interrupted by only 45 minutes, but in reality people of Silchar were without electricity for hours together at certain intervals.

Saturday was a very sunny day with an average temperature of 31 degree. People of the town had to face great difficulties. In many houses motor pump could not be operated due to power cut and so there was scarcity of water in the houses. The charge of inverter batteries were also exhausted in many houses and so children and aged persons faced difficulties.

However, later on APDCL declared, “”Because of reduced generation from Kopili, OTPC and BTPS we are compelled to impose frequent load shedding. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”

While speaking to way2barak, Arunabha Bhattacharjee, a resident of Silchar Ambicapatty said, “People like us who stays in a flat are probably the worst sufferers. The temperature soaring to 30 degree makes it unbearable to stay inside the rooms. We faced acute shortage of water today. Water was there in our underground reservoir, but due to long hours of power cut today, we failed to fill up the overhead tank.”

Anita Das, a resident of Hospital Road, Silchar said, “APDCL should inform before hand through newspapers if power service is interrupted for long hours. I am a housewife and I know how difficult it is to manage without water. We the residents of the town are totally dependent on supply water. If there is abnormal power cut how can we fill our over head tanks?”
