Congress loses trust vote in Puducherry; CM & his colleagues resign

Feb. 22: It’s another big setback for the Congress. The party lost the trust vote in Puducherry on Monday. After failing to prove it’s majority in the assembly, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy resigned. After a series of resignations from the Congress, the strength of the party in the dropped to 12 MLAs in the house. With the Congress losing power, the rival NR Congress-led alliance, which has 14 MLAs, may be asked to form government with just three months to the polls. The Lieutenant Governor may also call for President’s rule. The Chief Minister accused the BJP of trying to topple his government. He also blamed former Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi of “colluding with the opposition”.
